What happened in 2014 wasn't a "civil war", but a Russian invasion, a limited one, but still an invasion. Just comparing the differing directions cities like Donetsk and Mariupol took should be enough. Donetsk turned into a mafia-ruled cesspool, while Mariupol was turning into vibrant, intellectual hub. Until it was destroyed by Putin.
