I agree. I think looking at the world through different philosophical traditions is a great way to understand it better. The problem with learning about Chinese philosophy is the fact that as you suggest it's usually wrapped in a specific cultural context (and sometimes this context is even specific to a certain time period). Coming from a Western cultural context it is hard to understand. That's why I believe most people in the West who are interested in philosophy just stick to Western philosophy. Dipping into Eastern philosophy requires a pretty steep initial learning curve.

Although on the other hand there are some Eastern philosophies which are quite popular in the West as well. So not all of them are neglected. Zen Buddhism or Tibetan Buddhism come to mind.
