I am pretty convinced Mars had some sort of bacterial life at some point. No evidence yet, but there are strong hints. Earth seems to have developed life pretty early on, and the Martian conditions at that time were pretty similar.

By the way, nice poetic style, tying all this to Herodotus. :) I sometimes try to write in a similar way... unfortunately, here on Medium this is not appreciated that much. :(
