That's why I initially started focusing mostly on ancient philosophers. There I could find stuff that was to the point and practical (with some exceptions). However the closer you get to modern times, the harder it gets to understand what philosophers want to say. In the 20th century, you have guys like Wittgenstein, and later Foucault and Derrida. Trying to read them gives you a lot of WTF moments and you end up giving up pretty quickly.
