You might have caught the story of a little boy who took the train alone and traveled thousands of kilometers from his war-torn home to the safety of Slovakia. If not, then here it is.
Hassan Al Khalaf, a boy from the city of Zaporozhia in Ukraine, managed to make it to safety in Slovakia. His mother could not go with him, as she had to take care of her elderly mother. So she put him on a train bound for the border.
After a 1200 kilometer long journey, the boy finally made it to Slovakia. There, he was welcomed by the Slovak Minister of the Interior. Given a hot tea and food, he could finally breathe a sign of relief. He was then reunited with his siblings who were studying in the Slovak capital, Bratislava.
What makes this story even more powerful is that the boy is half-Syrian. From what I have managed to find out…
