This is about the US dollar being the world's reserve currency as opposed to other currencies replacing it. I cannot foresee a situation where governments will suddenly start getting rid of their US dollars and rush to replace them with Chinese yuans or some BRICS currency or whatever.

As for trust on the personal level, everything is relative. I agree with you that the current political and economic situation is not good, however it is bad or worse in other places as well. If you go to places in the Third World, they would rather take the US dollar than any other currency, sometimes even in preference of their own. This is especially evident if you travel in places like Africa.
