Yes, I know "Wisdom of the Crowds". Very interesting ideas there! :)

The difference there is that there everyone is making their choice separately without actually being surrounded by other people. So for example you have a jar and you have to guess how many candies are in there. One person will come and guess a number, which is low. Another person will come, and guess a number which is high. After a large number of people come, the average number of all the guesses will be close to the actual number of the candies in the jar.

This is different from Bonhoeffer's stupidity, where everyone is making decisions in full view of other people and influenced by those people. So yes, as you say there the conditions which comprise wise crowds are missing. :)
